We took a daytrip by train north 45 minutes to Lübeck, Germany on the Baltic Sea. This medieval city is surrounded by two canals. The Holsten gates were impressive. When we checked into the visitor’s center, I asked the gal helping us what her personal favorite thing about the city was - she smiled and mentioned something about the Gänge and brought out a map showing where they were located.

After leaving Frank and Evi we began our 2 hour drive north along the Netherlands/Germany border to Otterlo, a small town outside of Arnhem, Netherlands. We were here to experience the Netherlands Open Air Folk Museum, otherwise known as Openluchtmuseum. Since we were in the area, we will also see the Kröller-Müller Museum on the grounds of the Hogue Veluwe National Park (Netherlands largest national park).

After a 10-hour overnight flight and 2 quick train rides we arrive in Zwanenburg, Netherlands and our Airbnb apartment for the next 6 nights. We are just a 15-minute train ride from Amsterdam. What does one do on the first day living in the Netherlands? Well, you go for a bike ride along canals and into the nearby forest. Check that one off the list!
