Europe 2017 Favorites

After nearly 4 months of covering new ground in Europe, from arrival in England on July 13th to traveling back to the Pacific Northwest on November 1, here are the top picks for 2017:

Drum roll please...

Costa Brava, Spain: You just never know what’s going to happen when you strike up a conversation with or without Google translate! Our new friends Antoni and Teresa wanted us to experience their Costa Brava, and because of their generous hospitality, we did!

Lake District, Northern England: Some of the most dramatic, interesting, fabulous landscape we have ever seen are in Cumbria. We met so many wonderful people during our time in the Lake District and can’t wait to return for a much longer stay.

Fascinating and Memorable Highlights, in no particular order:

Chapel of Bones – Evora, Portugal

Church frescoes – Albi, France

Kayaking the Dordorne River near Sarlat, France

Castle ruins in Wales, UK and Sintra, Portugal

Attending a bullfight in Madrid, Spain

Driving through the lovely Douro Valley in northern Portugal

And for me, finally seeing Vermeer’s painting, The Girl with The Pearl Earring, The Hague, Belgium

What we would do differently:
Our longest stay in any one place was 8 nights in Madrid. We were on the go with fewer longer stays than in 2016. It was difficult for me to keep that pace, but Dennis seemed to gather strength as we traveled along and could have kept going. At this point, we are working at exploring a happy medium for us both.

Thanks for joining our journey.
Stay tuned,
